The City Council was going to vote on May 22 regarding improving the available housing strategies. Hopefully we have several options to offer our residents.
I am currently working with the backpackmeals.org, which coordinates the supplemental meal program with the Family Connection Center counselors in the Bellevue School District. According to their information, there are over 250 children who are homeless and living in shelters and couch surfing with family members. I envision them having their own homes if we provide affordable housing for these families who are working minimum paying jobs and cannot afford the rising rents in the Bellevue area.
I sincerely hope the Kemper Freeman development group will follow the example of Paul Allen and the Amazon CEO who have pledged a substantial amount of funds to build homes for those who are in need of shelter and support services.
