February 10, 2010 · 11:51 AM
The award-winning Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra (SRJO) will continue its 15th concert season with two special concerts in March, featuring performances of compositions by two of jazz music's greatest and most inventive composers, Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk.
The concerts, titled "Big Band Monk and Mingus" will be presented Saturday, March 6 (7:30 p.m.) in the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall (at Benaroya Hall) and Sunday, March 7 (3 p.m.) at the Kirkland Performance Center.
In a special effort to encourage young people to attend SRJO concerts, a new discount program for jazz fans ages 25 and below offers single tickets at $15 (for all seats in the house). Regular ticket prices range from $21 to $38.
Tickets can be purchased from the SRJO offices (206-523-6159) and on-line at www.srjo.org.
