Dance photography on exhibit at Omega Photography
Dance photography by local artist Bobby Bonsey is on exhibit at Omega Photo in Bellevue.
Bonsey, 22, has talents and skills range from film editing, production, performance, and photography, to dance. The current exhibit at Omega Photo brings together a confluence of his interests and skills in both dance and photography capturing the joy of movement and expression in dance.
His interest in dance came about with a demonstration of break dancing at his middle school where afterwards he thought it would be cool to learn some attention getting moves for future dances.
Three years into break dancing, a friend invited him to a Lindy Hop dance at a local church. The discovery of the physicality and fun of this new dance form led him in new directions and to the realization that dance was now a passion for him. This led him to travels as far away as the village of Herräng in Sweden where Lindy Hop dancers from all over the world converge for the Herräng Dance Camp.
More recently this past fall, he won a Michael Jackson dance competition and then he helped to produce, organize and teach 300 people to dance in the Michael Jackson flash mob dance tributes in Pioneer Square and Pike Place Market. In addition he was the lead male dancer in the event.
Another medium in which he has expressed himself is video. He has edited a shocking but effective video for Sound Transit warning teens to be aware around light rail, edited a the award winning locally produced, acted and directed film short “Best Comedy Short” award in LA at the International Family Film Festival, and numerous other videos.
His next endeavor is to try out for “So You Think You Can Dance?”
