BC’s vocal jazz ensemble selected again to perform at major world gathering of jazz musicians and educators
For the sixth time in 10 years, Bellevue College’s Celebration vocal jazz ensemble has been selected to perform at the annual international conference of jazz musicians and educators.
Sponsored by the Jazz Educators Network and scheduled for Jan. 6-8 in New Orleans, the conference is expected to draw thousands of participants from around the world.
The 20-member ensemble includes two Bellevue residents: Einav Bloom, a graduate of Newport High School, and Isaac Weller, a graduate of Bellevue Christian School.
Celebration can be heard locally this fall on Nov. 23 at the Bellevue College Jazz Summit, which will also feature top vocal jazz ensembles from other regional colleges, and again on Dec. 3, when Celebration will host Meadowdale. The Nov. 23 concert begins at 7:00 p.m. in Bellevue College’s Carlson Theatre, located in Building E on the college’s main campus (3000 Landerholm Circle S.E., Bellevue, at the intersection of S.E. 28th St. and 148th Ave. S.E.). Tickets, at $3 each, will be available at the door.
The Dec. 3 event begins at 7:30 p.m. in Carlson Theatre. Tickets, at $7, are available in advance at brownpapertickets.com (phone 1-800-838-3006) and at the door if unsold seats remain.
Further information on both events is available by calling 425-564-3114 or e-mailing email@example.com.
Under the direction of Bellevue College Music Department Chairman Thomas Almli, of Covington, Celebration has also performed in recent years at three American Choral Directors Association annual conferences, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Carnegie Hall, and many other top venues.
Touring yearly on a local, regional and national level, the 22-member Celebration ensemble has shared the stage with Grammy Award-winning New York Voices, Take 6, Dianne Krall and Kurt Elling, among other nationally known performers.
Only four college or university vocal jazz ensembles were invited to perform at the jazz educators conference this year. The others are Berklee School of Music Voices, University of Miami Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Mt. Hood Community College Jazz Choir (Gresham, Ore.).
In addition, the conference will feature numerous professional jazz artists as well as top college and university jazz bands and ensembles.
