Komen event sets training walk Sunday

To physically prepare participants for the upcoming Komen three day, 60-mile walk, the organizers will host an official Training Kick Off to help participants start off on the right foot.

The event will include an eight-mile training walk in Bellevue. It will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at New Balance Bellevue, 2032 Bellevue Square. Walkers are encouraged to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat.

The Komen 3-day walk in Seattle is set for Sept. 14-16. Walkers cover 60 miles in three days to raise funds to fight breast cancer.

Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the walkers help fund national research and large public health outreach programs. The remaining 25 percent funds local community and affiliate outreach programs.

Registration is still open for the 2012 Susan G. Komen Seattle 3-Day. For more information, visit
