Interlake High School Jazz Band I won third place in the high-school AAA division at the recent 29th annual Bellevue High School Jazz Festival. The band is directed by David Kim.

Nearly 50 middle-school, junior-high and high-school jazz bands from throughout the Northwest participated in the competition May 13-14. The festival is the primary way funds are raised for the entire Bellevue High band program.

To acknowledge the challenges of holding the festival while more than half of their school is under construction, the Bellevue High School Jazz Band 1 donned hard hats and safety vests for their performance at the conclusion of the middle-school concert competition.

"I've never conducted a band in fluorescent orange before," said Edd George, Bellevue High School director of bands.

A complete list of festival honors is available online.
