Sunrise Senior Living of Bellevue helped Harriett Gowen celebrate 100 yeas of life on Dec. 14.

Her nephew and his wife, Ron & Maureen Wells-Henderson, were joined by her niece Jane Duncan who came out from Missoula Mont., to help in the celebration.

Mrs. Gowen received her degree in Botany from the University of Washington. She was an active member of the West Seattle Garden Club. She was also a teller for many years at Peoples Bank at the Junction, in West Seattle.

Her husband, the late Rupert Gowen, was a ferry boat captain and after Word War II the couple built their home in West Seattle pretty much by hand as there were no bulldozers available after the war for clearing out the land.
